The Trip
It all began a few years ago in Vienna, Austria. I was doing an experiment in homelessness (because I´d never been homeless before.)
It was day 4 of a week-long thing, and by that point I was doing my best to keep hold of reality after minimal sleep in the winter environment.
I looked up and saw a poster wrapped around a lamp post: It had a picture similar to the map on this website; north, south and middle Americas. Surrounding this picture were cluttered words, to the left was a smaller picture of a VW bus buried in the jungle.
At first, I just blinked, not entirely sure my eyes were working correctly. I never did figure out what was going on in that poster, but it planted a seed in me which grew into what I´m doing today.
CadillacAmericas is an attempt to drive the most ridiculous vehicle I can from Alaska to Argentina roughly following the Pan-American Highway.
It´s based on the belief international travel in an international world just makes sense.
It´s based on the belief that Alternative energies work, and they are only alternative because they don´t get used.
It´s based on the belief that Hospitaliy exists and it´s a safe world out there.
The Alaska to Argentina part is the backbone of the trip. It holds things upright and prevents flopping while I´m visiting Organic Farms, Communities, and Schools. At these places I´m conducting interviews on Youth travel, Alternative energy, Community and Education.
It´s about 17,000 miles North to South if I go in a straight line, but I hardly ever do that.
